DR. J. S. COKER DIES AT TUCSON, ARIZONA THE ARCADIAN NEWSPAPER;

Body is to Be Buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery Here;

The many friends in DeSoto County of D. J. S. Coker were pained to learn of his death on last Thursday April 19. Tucson, Arizona, whither he had gone some two and a half months ago in the hope that the climate would be beneficial to his health. Acute laryngitis was the cause of his death.

Dr. Coker was accompanied to Arizona by his wife and his brother Broward, both of whom have been there with him all the time. About two weeks ago his Father J. Coker of Limestone, was called to Tucson because of a turn for the worse in the condition of his son, and the father was present when the end came.

Mrs. Coker accompanied the body to Arcadia, arriving here on Monday morning. She is not at the home of her sister, Mrs. Allan Dowd.


The funeral is being held today, with Dr. A. J. Holt in charge, assisted by Dr. W. D. Nowlin. R. C. Bozarth mortician.

Deceased was a member of the Masonic fraternities of Arcadia and of other fraternal orders. He saw service in the world war. The Masonic body of this city and the local Legion post will participate in the Funeral at the cemetery. The body is to be buried at Oak Ridge.

Dr. Coker practiced medicine for about twelve years at Gardner and Limestone, moving to Arcadia from the latter place only about a year ago. He has a wide circle of friends who mourn his untimely death. He was 38 years old.

Dr. Coker was a graduate of Atlanta Medical College, where he completed his course in 1914. He volunteered for service with the United States Army on Aug. 8, 1917, and entered the 50th Infantry as a First Lieutenant in the Medical Corps. Later he was promoted to captain and was transferred to the 42nd Infantry, early in 1918. He was honorably discharged from, Fitzsimmons hospital in December, 1920.
