Enrolled on 5/4/1864 as a private in 2nd Co., M, 62nd Virginia Mounted Infantry. It seems very likely that he, along with his son, Joseph S. Nauman, were conscripted under the third Confederate Conscription Act. He was absent sick as of 10/31/1864 and 12/31/1864. No further record of military service after that date. Postwar iron ore miner. A brief note in an old issue of the county paper in 1895 proclaimed: "Mr. Absalom Nauman of Honeyville was in Luray the other day rejoicing over the return of his 50th anniversary of marriage. Married in February 1845 he has reduced the period of connubial bliss to hours and delights in saying that he has been married 458,288 hours."
