He was a native of LaGrange, GA; a graduate of the University of GA, he pledged Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity; he served as President and Vice President of Intramural Key Honor Society; he served as President of both his Junior and Senior Classes at UGA; he served in the US Army during WWII; he was a Communicant of St. Andrews in the Pines Episcopal Church where he also served as treasurer of the church and as a member of the choir; he sang in various choirs throughout his life having formerly served as Cantor in the choir of Church of Our Savior.
He served one year on Senoia City Council, three terms as Mayor of Senoia, he was a member of the Senoia Historical Society; a member of the Optimist Club of Senoia, and as Chairman of Senoia 1996 Olympic Torch Relay. Lester retired as Secretary-Assistant Treasurer of South Motor Carriers Rate Conference, now SMC3, after 37 years.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Annie Doris Tinsley Mann, of Peachtree City; one niece, CeLesta Kay Allen and husband Richard of Brooksville, FL; great-nephew, Tim Allen; great-niece, Emily Hardman; and great-great nephew, Richie Hardman all of Dade City, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Apr 13, 2009 at 11am at St. Andrews in the Pines Episcopal Church with the burial of cremains to follow in the Garden of Remembrance with the Reverend Paul C. Elliott officiating. A reception will follow in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers memorials are to be made to St. Andrews in the Pines Episcopal Church Choral Endowment.
