Before applying for admission to the first Ohio Highway Patrol class in 1933, Ivan D. Defenbaugh of Circleville was 28 years old, married, no children. He was a former newspaperman, serving the Columbus Evening Dispatch and a press association. He also was employed by oil, railroad and paper companies.

Ivan Deffenbaugh, 41, former Pickaway countian and only son of Mr. and Mrs George Defenbaugh, residing on U.S. Route 23 two miles north of Circleville, died Sunday at McCrae, Ga., from an accidental gunshot wound. Although details were lacking, Tuesday, it was reported that Mr. Defenbaugh, a former Army Captain and World War II veteran, was engaged in target practice at the time of the accident.
Mr. Defenbaugh, a graduate of Circleville high school and former radio announcer for the State Highway Patrol at Columbus, had resided for the past two years at Fort Myers, Fla. He was born in Pickaway County.
Besides his parents, who were enroute Tuesday to Georgia, he leaves his widow, Josephine, and their 10 month old son, Robin D.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at McCrae.
