Edgar served in Company F 30th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. Mustered in as 1st Lieutenant, mustered out as Captain.

Brother of Cornelius E. Meacham, another Civil War Veteran, buried in Pine Glen.


Edgar was in the mercantile business in Brandon, Rutland Co., VT., until the Meacham family moved to Prescott, Pierce Co., WI., in 1856. With his father, Aurelius, he was in the sash & door factory business in Prescott and opened Meacham General Store in 1876, with his son Edgar later becoming a partner. Son George H. later joined the business, until his early death.
