Mrs. Calloway Dead

Mrs. E. J. Calloway is dead. Her life has been long and fruitful. To her and her devoted husband, who preceeded her to the grave just two years ago, there were born 12 children, nine of whom survive. Mrs. Calloway was a resident of Noodle for seventeen years, was a consistent member of the Christian church at that place and died in the faith. Mrs. Andrew Barbee is the only living child residing in Merkel and the funeral cortege started from her home. Several of the children, of where there are five boys and four girls, live near here. Mrs. Calloway was born in East Texas and many of her girlhood years were spent in Orange. She was 69 years of age. After marriage she and her husband resided in Hill county, moving from there to Jones county 17 years ago. They had been married 51 years when Mr. Calloway died. Their son Otho, is the only child living near the old home place at Whitney. The funeral took place in the Rose Hill Cemetery Tuesday evening. Elder W. G. Cypert officiating. Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved in the death of their honored mother and faithful citizen.

Note: Her obituary states that she was born in east Texas but on the application she filed for a Widow's Pension for Civil War benefits she stated she was born in Farmerville, Louisiana. Also, in the pension papers is the application for Mortuary Warrant that Mrs. A. J. Barbee filed that states Mrs. Letha Calloway died at the home of her son Dock near Merkel, Texas.
