Services for John James Gallaher, 71, prominent businessman, civic leader, and former mayor, were held at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Weaver officiating.

Born and raised in Mississippi, Mr. Gallaher moved to Texas in 1882, locating in Weatherford. He attended schools in Graford before graduating from Weatherford High school. He enlisted in the US Navy and served from 1907-1911, begin discharged as Machinist, First Class. Mr. Gallaher moved to Graham in 1911 from Fort Worth, Texas following his honorable discharge. When World War I broke out, Mr. Gallaher served as Military Instructor in the Graham schools, continuing his business interests. Among his business interests was purchasing the Graham Steam Laundry in 1920 in partnership with Owen Faunt LeRoy. He purchased the interest of his partner in 1926. Then the purchase of the Dolman Hotel in 1921. He was a member of the Methodist Church and served on the Board of Stewards. Mr. Gallaher was mayor of Graham from 1934-1938. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, LIfe Member Moslah and Maskat Shriner, Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, member of the Knights of Pythias, Lions Club, and a charter member of the Rotary Club. He served on the Selective Service Board during World War II. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Graham National Bank, District Director of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Graham Chamber of Commerce. His hobbies were shooting clay pigeons, baseball, and football.

Survivors: son - John James Gallaher, Jr.; daughter - Mrs. Alred E. "Mary Elizabeth" Cadis; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters - Mrs. Edith Suggestt, Mrs. Esther Fulton, Linnie Young, brother-in-law - Bern Parkinson.
