she married a young man in the air force whose name was Stephen j Toth.he was a pilot in the second world war and was one of only 13 men out of his whole squadron to return home without a toe tag. they married after 2 months of knowing each other. they had three children before he died of a sudden case of throat cancer that carried him off in less than 4 months.she was crushed by the sudden loss of her young husband but carried on and managed to finish raising three children all alone.my grandmother honored her wedding vows and then some by remaining true to my grandfather for the rest of her life.besides being undyingly faithful, she had guts and sweetness with an amazing wit and coolness that i only hope has rubbed off on me a little.
my grandmother was without question, the strongest, smartest, toughest, most amazing women i have ever been personally aquainted with and almost every cool or useful thing i know how to do,was something i learned by watching her.she taught me how to read, make a perfect omelet,do long division, sew my own clothes, dye easter eggs,as well as to find and sing a harmony line among other things. But most of all she taught me about the kind of woman i want to be.the kind that others can look up to and learn from.I only wish that she had lived long enough to teach me more about HOW to become the kind of woman that she was. She had integrity.she was proud and i AM proud to have known her. I am proud to say that MARY LOU TOTH was my grandmother. She is sorely grieved after and deeply, deeply missed.
