Dr. Harvey was born July 27, 1916 in Stockton, California. After retiring from the Navy as an officer with 27 years of service, he worked in education, becoming the Superintendent of Schools in several California school districts. Upon retirement as Superintendent of the Alemeda County School System, he continued for 15 years as a consultant for school districts when filling administrative positions or they needed a fiscal study of their district.
He was a member and past president of the Rotary International. Subsequent to the death of his wife of 53 years, Mildred, he moved to Sun City West to spend the winters. A faithful Christian, he immediately became involved in a local Baptist church.
It was while attending church activities that he met and fell in love with Peggy. They were married on April 22, 1995.
He suffered the loss of his only son, John Harvey, in 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Bonnie Miller; three grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Nancy Harvey; and one great-grandchild.
Dr. Harry Harvey was a faithful member of the Grand Community Baptist Church in Sun City Grand, Arizona.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Grand Community Baptist Church, 18350 N. Goldwater Ridge Dr., Surprise, AZ 85374. Visitation will be held at the Camino del Sol Funeral Home on Friday, February 19, from 3:00 until 5:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at Grand Community Baptist Church on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City.
