L.C. Colburn, Former Supervisor, Dies

The death of LeGrand C. Colburn of Milford, former Chairman of the Otsego Coutny Board of Supervisors and a member of the County Board of Civil Service Commissioners, occurred Friday at the mary Imogene Bassett hospital following a long illness. He was 76 years old.

Mr. Colburn, a native of Milford, was a retired farmer, and for 13 years, operated a retail ice business in Cooperstown.

He was born in Milford on May 19, 1886, a son of Charles and Charlotte (Chase) Colburn, and married Miss Mildred Smith in Milford on October 18, 1911.

Mr. Colburn and his family lived in Cooperstown from 1918 until 1931 during which time he operated an ice house and retail business on lower susquehanna Avenue. In 1931, he returned to Milford where he operated a dairy farm until his retirement in 1946.

He served as Supervisor of the town of Milford for 14 years, and was chairman of the Board in 1950. He also was a member of the Milford Board of Education for many years.

At the time of his death he was a member of the County Civil Service Commission, a trustee of the Milford methodist Church, and of the Milford Cemetery Association. He was a former member of the Milford Rotary Club.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Edwin Gasperini of Garrison, Mrs. Charles E. Hart of Santa monica, Calif., Miss Elizabeth Colburn or Ithaca, and Mrs. Richard Bates of Milford; two sons, Clay Colburn of Middleville, and Robert Colburn of Woodbury, Conn.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 form the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, with the Rev. Phillip N. Pitcher, pastor of the Milford Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery.
