Nimrod Brown, born in Culpepper Co, VA, March 29, 1796, was a carpenter apprentice seven years, and followed his trade till 1854. That year he came to Texas. He had $1800 in gold & two good teams when he reached Coryell Co. January 1, 1855, he drove stake on the farm on which his son, Capt Brown, now lives. He paid $1000 for 227 acres, and this he at once began to develop. Being at that time well advanced in years, the work of improvement devolved mostly on his sons. They cleared the ground, hauled logs, built fences, and before long the farm assumed a homelike appearance. Mr. Brown was one of the first Commissioners of Coryell Co, serving in that capacity twelve years
