He was a druggist in Oklahoma City in 1930 according to the census. His wife, Mary A. Hubbell Bres, was born Aug. 1874 in MS. They married Sept. 9, 1886. In the 1900 census he was still in Monroe, LA and his mother Mary "Mollie" Agnes was living with him and his wife Mary.

His father was Dr. Paul Bres and is buried in Old City Cemetery in Monroe, LA. They had children Elizabeth "Lizzie" Roane Bres Marable Giles (buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, TX)(see her picture to the right), Catherine (Katie R.) Bres Chatham (buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery), Callie "Clara" Marie Bres, and Paul Henry Bres (I believe is most certainly Sam's brother), are both buried in Old City Cemetery, Monroe, LA.

There is some question as to whether his mother Mary was born in 1830 according to the cemetery record. The census records list around 1834.

His mother Mary "Mollie" Agnes Bres was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Vicksburg, MS.

Samuel's middle name is likely Paul as his father was named Paul. He was apparently a Mason as their symbol was engraved on his marker and the Masonic Home bought his plot and his wife's.

I just got this from Lora Peppers of Monroe, LA. Thanks Lora!!!!

Monroe News-Star, February 11, 1957 Page 5, Column 4 Sam P. Bres Dies In Okla.

Sam P. Bres, related to a prominent Monroe family and a native of this city, died in Guthrie, Okla., where the funeral and interment were held.

He was son of the late Dr. Paul and Mollie Hanna Bres, well known here, where one of the streets today is called Bres Ave.

Mr. Bres operated a leading drug store many years ago at DeSiard and St. John streets. After selling this business he operated a similar place of business on South Grand Street.

Leaving Monroe he lived for a time in Kansas City, Oklahoma City and ultimately in Guthrie.

Retiring from a drug business in Oklahoma City, he farmed and operated the Bres Realty Company up to 1945 when he retired and spent the last few years of his life in Guthrie, where his wife died a few months ago.

His nearest relatives are nephews and nieces. Rodger Chatham of Vicksburg is a nephew and he has a sister-in-law, Mrs. John R. Amos, of Oklahoma City.
