William or "Eldon", as he was called, was born on October 25, 1915, the oldest child of Orlando Thomas "Tom" and Maggie Dewhirst. He married Vernice I. Shook, they no children.
Eldon was a member of Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois. He served in the United States Army in World War II. He was taken prisoner on December 18, 1944 in the battle of the bulge and was in Muhlberg Stalag 4b, prison camp in Germany until April 17, 1945. He died twelve days later on April 29, 1945, in a Paris, France hospital due primary to starvation.
Surviving beside his parents and his wife was a brother, James, who also served in WWII. A sister, Lillian (Roe) Bower; a half- brother, Leonard Dewhirst.
