The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at the Lohn Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 12 at Lohn Baptist Church in Lohn with Rev. Steve Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery in rural McCulloch County, under the direction of Leatherwood Memorial Chapels, Brady.
She was born May 28, 1923, in Lohn to Ira Ogden Hester and Bertha (Peel) Hester. She married Carroll R. Hodges on March 22, 1942, in Reno, Nevada. She had lived in Santa Anna for over 30 years. She was a graduate of Lohn High School, where she was captain of the volleyball team. She was a homemaker and helped with the livestock along with everything else on the ranch. She was the former postmaster of the Vick Post Office. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed gardening, sewing for her family; she made many beautiful quilts.
Survivors include four daughters, Caroline Cole and husband, Ivey, of Liberty Hill, Dianne English and Kathy Doggett and husband, Lee, all of San Angelo and Nancy Hodges of Mertzon; a sister, Billy Jean Nicolas; and husband, Johnny of Menard; three sisters-in-law, Alice Hester of Mercury, Nettie Andrews and Loretta McBee, both of Plainview; grandchildren, Pam Lafferty and husband, Kirk, of Liberty Hill, Melinda Cole of Georgetown; Ray Cole and wife, Jenell, of Elgin, Vickie Ratliff and husband, Scott of May, Tracy Morris and husband, Denny, of Mertzon and Randy Lee of Vick and great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Cole, Paige and Clayton Lafferty, Ryan and Blake Fugate, Adelle and Taryn Cole, Courtney Hallum, Rocky Gage, Kelsie Gage, Mackenzie, Makayla and Chance Morris.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brother; one sister; two grandsons, Dustin Lee Doggett and Bobby Joe Lee; and a son-in-law, Paul English.
Pallbearers will be Lee Doggett, Ivey Cole, Ray Cole, Randy Lee, Dennis Hodges and Billy Dan Sorrell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Cemetery, Lohn Valley Improvement Association or to the charity of choice.
