Bernhard Huber married Itha "Ida" Schmidt on 18 August 1857 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Zell, Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri with Rev. F.X. Weiss officiating.
Bernhard and Itha came to Young County by ox cart in 1876. Bernhard settled on 160 acres of land near School creek. His land claim was filed in Austin, Travis County, Texas on 18 April 1878.
After her husband's murder in December 1881 at his blacksmith shop on the family farm, Ida continued to live on the farm until 1911. She moved to Jermyn, Texas to be near a daughter at that time.
In 1930, she was living with a daughter at Weatherford, Texas but returned to Jermyn community in 1931.
