Helen was born January 25, 1928 in Sheboygan to Henry and Lydia (Wolfmyer) Achilles.
She attended local elementary schools before graduating from Sheboygan Central High School.
Following high school, Helen worked at the Kohler Co.
She continued her education at Marvel School of Beauty Culture in Milwaukee earning her diploma in cosmetology.
On June 28, 1958 she married Daniel W. Verhelst of Oostburg.
Helen enjoyed her years as a homemaker. Dan was manager of Piggly Wiggly stores in Wisconsin. Following Dan's retirement, the couple moved to Bonita Springs, Florida until returning to Sheboygan in July of 2000.
During their retirement years, they enjoyed traveling, making several trips to Europe.
Dan preceded Helen in death on August 19, 2001.
Helen resided at Harmony and Sunny Ridge before moving to Pine Haven.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Norman Achilles; 3 sisters, Esther Hermann, Hildegarde Adams and Genevieve Jurk.
Private interment services will be held at Wildwood Cemetery.
Helen will be remembered for her faith in her Lord and Savior, and her good nature and strength of character.
A memorial fund has been established in her name, care of Ballhorn Chapels, 1201 N. 8th St., Sheboygan, WI 53081
