Donald K. Clevenger, 78, Ottawa, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital in Gardner, Kan. He was born Sept. 30, 1931, in Ottawa, Kan., the son of Ruby (Underwood) and Winston Clevenger.

He grew up in Pomona and graduated from Pomona High School in 1949.

Donald married Nancy Newfield in Ottawa Jan. 31, 1954.

She preceded him in death in 1987. He married Kay Criss Oct. 8, 1988 in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Don was active in scouts, coaching girls softball, was a previous member of the Pomona Lions Club, a member of the MO Cutting Horse Association and also the American Quarter Horse Association. Don worked for JC Penney's as a general manager in various cities until his retirement in the 1980's.

Survivors include wife wife, Kay; daughters Valorie Turpin and her husband Kent of Lamar, Colo., Stacy Willhoite and her husband David of Harrisonville, Mo.; step daughter, Terri Hook and her husband Rex, Ottawa; step sons Ray Cates and his wife Samra, Overland Park, Bryon Cates and his wife LaVon, Pomona; sister Shirley Norton and her husband Ted of Cottonwood, Ariz.; grandchildren, Travis, Ryann, Katie, Ross, Cody, Sarah, Laura, Jessica, Garrett, Ethan, Rebecca, Lindsey, and Derek; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Austin, Tatum and Avery; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nancy in 1987 and his son, Greg Clevenger in 2000.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at the Pomona United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Don will lie in state all day Thursday at the funeral Home. Burial will be held in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pomona United Methodist Church and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 14, Ottawa, Ks. 66067.
