Merrell D. Geible, 75, of 7 Maple Court, North Manchester, died Sunday, May 31, 1998 at his residence. He was born at Wabash, IN July 10, 1922 to Fred and Leonora (Burgener) Geible, both deceased. He married Lois Fulton June 17, 1945 and she survives.

Merrell Geible was a retired minister with the United Methodist Church. He gradu-ated from Indiana Central and the United Theological Seminary of Dayton, OH. He earned the B.A. degree from University of Indianapolis, M.D. Degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, and an Honorary D.D. Degree from the University of Indianapolis. He served parishes at Richvalley, Hammond, Warsaw, Lafayette, and Winchester, all in Indiana.

He served as director of Christian Education & Program for the Indiana North Conference EUB Church; Logansport District Superintendent for United Methodist Church; was a member of the Board of Trustees of United Theological Seminary, and as its president for five years; and was a mem-ber of the Board of Publications of the United Methodist Church for eight years, and had been elected a member of the General Conference several times.

He was a member of the North Indiana Conference United Methodist Church, the North Manchester Historical Society, and Manchester Shepherd's Center.

In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by two sons, David Geible of Atlantic City, WY and Norman Geible of Kernersville, N.C.; daughters Mrs. Dennis (Elizabeth) Shoemaker of Colorado Springs, CO, Katherine Geible of Wabash, IN and Rebecca Geible of Roanoke, IN; a brother, Harry Geible of Sebring, FL and a sister Frieda Anderson of Wakarusa, IN; also four grandchildren, two step grandchildren; one step great grandchild.

Funeral service was held this morning (Church with the Revs. William Hemmig, Larry Ray, Lorin Clemenz, and David Byrum officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Preferred memorials are to Oakwood Spiritual Life Center Foundation, 702 E. Lakeview Rd., Syracuse, IN 46567 or the United Theological Seminary Scholarship Fund, 1810 Harvard Blvd., of Dayton, OH 45406. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
