Mrs. Ellen T. Baker, age 77 years, a former school teacher of Iberia, Mo. passed away Friday morning, January 9, 1976, at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia, Mo. Mrs. Baker had been a patient since January 6, 1976 after suffering a stroke. Mrs. Baker was born July 8, 1898, near Iberia, Mo., the daughter of Joseph William and Letha (Pittman) Porter. She was united in marriage with Elda Baker and he preceded her in death October 30, 1944.

Mrs. Baker had taught schools in Pulaski and Miller Counties for over 44 years. Among those schools were Hooker, Atwell, Spearman, Brown, Honey Springs, Hancock, and in the school at Dixon where she retired a few years ago. Mrs. Baker had moved to Hancock, Mo. in 1948 and then to Iberia in 1960 where she made her home until her passing.

Mrs. Baker was baptized into Christ at age 17 in 1915 into the Christian Church. She had been a member of the Iberia Christian Church since 1961. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Teachers.

Surviving are two sons, Edward J. Baker and Dwight P. Baker both of Iberia, Mo.; one brother, Thomas W. Porter Sr. of Rte. 1, Crocker, Mo., three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Those preceding her in death were her father in 1940, her mother in 1950, her husband, three brothers, Roy, Willie and Glenn Porter and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Decker and Mrs. Eva Null.

Funeral services were held at the Iberia Christian Church Sunday, January 11, 1976 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Shepherd officiating. Interment was in the Iberia Cemetery under the direction of Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia, Mo. Pallbearers were Paul Steen, Wayne Barnett, Spurgeon Whitaker, Harold E. Wittle, Roy Keeth and Paul Shelton. These were all former students of Mrs. Ellen Baker.
