Pvt. Frydenlund was stationed at Fort Grant (located south of Rockford, IL.), when the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic struck the base.

Frydenlund caught pneumonia (as a result of the flu virus), and died.

From September thru October 1918, over 1,000 soldiers died, at Fort Grant, as a result of the deadly virus.
