William was the son of Albert Chance of Delaware and Elizabeth Dunbar of Kentucky. He married Mary Louise Osborn on September 29, 1867 in Scott County, Illinois. From this union were born eight known children: Sarah E, John Leonard, Alena A, Luella Hilderbrand, Laura Mabel Baird, James Albert, Charles A, and Mary E. William married a second time to Emma C. Fitzpatrick on November 15, 1891 in Morgan County, Illinois. From this union were born two known children: Lamar Will and Lawrence. William married a third time to Josephine B. Everest on July 20, 1919 in Kansas. No known children. William was a carpenter and a painter.
