She was born in Nottingham, England, to Leonard and Hilda Knapp Gillborn. Betty was a very elegant British lady who never forgot her heritage. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Houston, Texas. She was a long time active member of the Houston chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE). The work of the DBE was a key charitable focus for Betty. She devoted her time and energy in helping to raise funds for the Mountbatten House, a retirement home in Highland, Texas. Betty was preceded in death by her previous husband, Leo T. Rodgers, of Hatfield, AR. She is survived by her loving husband, Adam B. Whitman, and various nieces and nephews in England.
