Deborah Lynn Poole Akers, 51, of Floyd, Va., passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010, surrounded by the love and support of her family after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Pensacola, Florida on August 5, 1958. She was predeceased by her father, Bill Poole. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Roy L. Akers. Also, surviving is Debbie's mother, Edie Poole; sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Mike Janosky; sister and brother-in-law, Jodi and Billy Leffue; daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and DaRyan Horner; and daughter, Caitlin Johnson; stepdaughter and fiancé, Tessa Akers and Brian Sutphin, stepgranddaughter, Brianna Sutphin; two grandchildren, Lydia and Justus Horner; four nieces, Micah, Micala and McKenzie Janosky and Kelsie Leffue; her nephew, Garrett Leffue. Debbie was employed by Universal Physical Therapy in Radford, Virginia. Her previous employers include South Roanoke OBYGN, Center for Rehabilitation and Development and Dental Associates. The family would like to thank the staff at Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their loving care and all the wonderful people who have supported them with gifts of food, cards, telephone calls and prayers. Debbie will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. A Memorial Service celebrating Debbie's life will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 12 noon at Red Hill Church of the Brethren, 6050 Franklin Road Roanoke, Va. 24014-7132. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Red Hill Church of the Brethren, Women's Fellowship Fund via above address.
