Elder Beasley was the son of William Jackson and Rhoda Quillams Beasley of Macon and Jackson Counties of North Carolina. He married Sarah Jane Gibbs or Gibson. They lived in the Cowee section of Macon County and the Greens Creek section of Jackson County before moving to Graham County. Reuben was a preacher, farmer, and carpenter. Their children were Ellie, William M., Hardy, Jesse Andrew, Maggie, Rev.James C. , and Cordelia.

Reuben helped establish the Primitive Baptist Church that was located at Farley Branch. He pastored it several years, as did his son Jesse. It was under his direction and leadership that a new church was built, the Meadow Branch Primitive Baptist Church. He pastored the church until cancer overtook his body, and the leadership passed to Gardner Birchfield whom Reuben had baptized.

The birthdate given by Joel Williams, informant, on Reuben's death certificate and on his tombstone is inaccurate. First, his father was only ten years old in 1843; second, all censuses give his birthdate as around 1856. His parents had married in 1851. The death date on his tombstone conflicts with the date given on his death certificate by the doctor who attended him, so the date above reflects that given by the doctor. Headstone engravers and informants quite often made these kinds of mistakes. This Reuben Beasley is not to be confused with the Reuben Beasley who was a CSA veteran who was born earlier.
