OBITUARY OF FRANCIS MARION RATTS. (Charleston, IL Daily Courier)
RATTS FUNERAL TO BE HELD IN INDIANA.
Funeral services for F. M. Ratts, who died on Thursday afternoon at the home of his son, R. M. Ratts, east of Charleston, after a long illness, will be held in Salem Indiana, no services will be held in Charleston. The funeral party will leave Charleston on Saturday morning for Salem, Indiana
where the services will be conducted and burial made.
Francis M. Ratts, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ratts, of Salem, Indiana, was born on July 10, 1844, and departed this life on November 3, 1927, at the age of 83 years. He had been confined to his bed for eleven weeks at the home of a son, Robert M. Ratts, near Charleston.
He was born near Salem, Ind., where he spent his boyhood days. In 1864, he was married to Martha A. Short. Soon after, they moved to Illinois, near Charleston. To this union were born nine children, one who passed away in infancy. He leaves eight children, thirty-eight grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren, three sisters, and two brothers.
The children are Mrs. Rosa Stucker of Ellendale, N.D.; David P. Ratts, of Hindsboro; Robert M. Ratts, of Charleston; Mrs. Anna M. Woodall, of Marion Junction, S.D.; Dr. Arthur Ratts, of Kaw, Mo., and Roscoe Ratts, of Hindsboro, who are twins; Mrs. Fannie L. Magnuson of Red Field, S.D., and Fernando F. Ratts of Montpelier, N.D. who are also twins. The sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Smedley, of Kensington, Kan.; Kate Strain of Phillipsburg, Kan.; Delila Knuckles of Paris, Illinois, and the brothers, C. F. Ratts, of Junction City, Kan., and S. E. Ratts of Everett, Washington.
His wife, Martha, departed this life March 8, 1911, at the age of 64 years, 3 months, and 24 days. He again married on November 21, 1912, to America Martin, who died on April 12, 1927. Mr. Ratts was a member of the Church of Christ and was true to his religious faith.
