Harold Albert Lawson was born March 13, 1922, in Stanton, Iowa the son of Albert Lawson and Anna (Swanson) Lawson. He grew up attending school, graduating from the Stanton High School with the Class of 1939. He had been a member and was baptized in the Lutheran Church growing up. In 1942, he answered the call to serve his country by entering the Army Air Corps during World War II. He faithfully served until his discharge in 1946. On February 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Joan Bowers at the United Methodist Church in Clarinda. To this loving union two sons were born, Stuart and Vance.

Harold and Joan made their home in the Bedford / Gravity area. Together they enjoyed farming and the lifestyle it provided. Harold truly loved being a farmer. Whether he was tilling the land, watching his crops grow or tending to his livestock, hand feeding the steers and heifers from wooden feed bunks, he looked forward to the many aspects of a farm life, and all it provided he and his family. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, and when time allowed, sitting on his deck visiting with his family and neighbors when they came to visit. On the side, Harold enjoyed doing small engine repair. He had been the Past Commander of the Gravity American Legion Post No. 578, and was also a member of the Bedford VFW. Together he and Joan attended the Gravity United Methodist Church, and when it combined with the Bedford United Methodist Church, they transferred their membership.
