Cyrus Read Teed, leader of the Koreshan Unity, was the second son of eight children born to Jesse Sears and Sarah Ann (Tuttle) Teed. Many of his followers thought he would be resurrected on Christmas Day. When this did not happen, he was entombed at the southern end of Estero Island on Decemer 27, 1908. His tomb was washed away in the hurricane of 1910 and no longer exists.
