He was born October 9, 1918 in Knox City, Texas to Oscar Carl Howard and Alice Maude Horton Howard. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945. He was a prisoner of war for 28 months in Germany. He married Opal Doris Dobson on December 24, 1945 in Leveland, Texas. He was owner of Wayne Howard Heating and Air Conditioning in Odessa. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church since 1950, serving as a longtime Deacon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Opal Howard, second wife, Martha Howard, two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his sons, Rodney Howard and Paul W. Howard and wife Cindy; Grandchildren, Kalen Altis and husband Wayne, Amanda Porter and husband Bradley, Genna Whitehead and James Holbrook; Great grandchildren, Amy Hack and husband Jerry, Brandon and Cody Johnson, Destiny and Natalie Porter; Great Great Grandchildren, Austin, Shayla and Baylea Hack; Nieces, Jeanie of Missouri and B.A. Yerks of New Jersey; a dear friend, Edith Koerlin and many more friends.
Visitation with the family is scheduled from 6-8 PM Friday, January 15, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Belmont Baptist Church with John McLemore officiating. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
