Died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 1979, at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center. He was 80, a native of Leesville and a resident of Clinton. He was a retired employee of the Soil Conservation Service in East Feliciana Parish and an Army veteran of World War I. Visiting at First Baptist Church, Clinton, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Religious services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, conducted by the Rev. Roy Stebbins and the Rev. Darwin Hall. Burial in Masonic Cemetery, Clinton.

Survived by his wife, Mrs. Emily Viola Smith Cain, Clinton; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Jo Ann) Johnson, Ridgefield, Conn., and Mrs. John Allen (Carolyn) Phares, Clinton; a grandson, Reid Johnson, Ridgefield; four granddaughters, Shannon and Mariah Phares, both of Clinton, Ruth and Heather Johnson, both of Ridgefield; a sister, Mrs. Zilla Cain Efurd, Shreveport; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. William Henry Cain.

Pallbearers : James A. Smith II, A. M. McConnell, Bill Wheat, D. R. Hall, Glenn Hunt, John Lyles, Percy Dreher and Joe Hunt.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion, was a 32nd Degree Mason of Olive Lodge No. 52, F&AM, a Shriner of the Jerusalem Shrine Temple, a member of the Washington Chapter No. 57 of R.A.M., a graduate of LSU and a former coach, math teacher and assistant principal at Central High School.
