Serepta Stickley was born in Licking county, Ohio, May 1, 1842. She came with her parents to Iowa when a child and settled near Emeline where she lived almost all of the remainder of her life, and where she died at 3:20 o'clock Thursday, july 19, 1917, age 75 years, 2 months and 19 days.
She was united in marriage to Thos. Post in 1859. He died in 1864, his sickness being caused by exposure in the Civil war. She was again married to John Conley in 1873. He died June 10, 1894.
She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom are living, namely, Mrs. Sarah Bickford of Emeline; Mrs. Lavina Edwards, Hitchcock, Sask., Canada; James Post, Monmouth, Ia.; Mrs. Lydia Bickford, Crabbtown, Mahaley Edwards, Baldwin; Mrs. Mary Gaddis, Little Falls, Minn., and Allen, William and Israel Conley at home.
There are thirty grandchildren and forty great grandchildren, also several nices and nephews and hosts of friends.
This good mother and true friend to all, was never more happy than when surrounded by her children, grandchildren and friends, to whom she leaves the sacred memory of many hours spend in fellowship and wise counsel.
The funeral services were held at the home north of Emeline Sunday, Rev. John Dawson of Monmouth officiating, and interment was made in the Hickory Grove cemetery.
