Wenatchee World - Thursday, December 24, 2009

Delmar G. "Del" Barrett, 78, a resident of Wenatchee, died Sunday, December 13, 2009, in the company of his family at Colonial Vista Care Center in Wenatchee. Del was born on March 10, 1931, in Nashua, MO to Jesse James and Gertrude (Hensley) Barrett. He grew up and received his early education in Kingsport, TN. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Korea and served in the Korean War. On April 1, 1950, he married Donna George in Everett before returning to Korea, where he finished his military service and received his honorable discharge. He then apprenticed as a glazer in Everett, WA. The Barretts later moved to Morristown, TN, where he opened and operated Barrett's Glass until 1955, when they moved to Wenatchee, where Del worked for Wenatchee Paint and Glass. In 1973, they moved to Omak, where he purchased the Omak Paint and Glass that he operated until his retirement in 1985. He and Donna were both members of the Assembly of God Church, Riverside Chapel in Omak. After his retirement, he and Donna moved to Conconully. In 2000, they moved back to East Wenatchee, into the same home he sold in 1973. Del lost the love of his life when Donna passed away on February 15 2007. They had been happily married for 57 years. Del loved to fish, hunt, watch football and travel. He and Donna traveled to places like Alaska, California, toured the Eastern Coast and went several times to Tennessee, to visit family and friends.

Del is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sandy Matheson of Marysville; daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and John Brockwell of Malaga, June and Bob Goehner of East Wenatchee, Phyllis and Don Copeland of East Wenatchee and Nancy Worley of Wenatchee; son-in-law, Ben Carpenter of Bean Station, TN; brothers, Paul Barrett, James Barrett and Lynn Barrett all of Tennessee; sisters, Judy Smith, Barbara "Sis" Hite and Thelma "Blimp" Parton all of Tennessee; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Family was always the most important thing to both Del and Donna. Del was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Donna; daughter, Merle; sister, Helen and brother, Bill. "Papa we miss you and we will always love you. We know that you are in a better place and you and Grannie are together again after three long years. You can both rest easy now. Papa, can you please tell Grannie that we miss her and we will see you both again someday."

"Del" Barrett will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum in East Wenatchee at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Keith Kirkpatrick officiating.
