Emily Shumate Goodman, 83, of 502 Maple Ave. Reidsville, N.C. went to be with the Lord Saturday January 30, 2010 at her home. Funeral services were conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Citty Funeral Home Chapel in Reidsville, NC and burial was in Reidlawn Cemetery.
A native of Rockingham County she was a daughter of the late Claude Allen Shumate and Lilly Walker Shumate Bullock and had lived in Reidsville her entire life. She loved her family, and was a retired employee of American Tobacco Company. A member of Osceola Baptist Church, she enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and traveling as long as she was able. She was a member of the Sunshine Group at Fairview Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband Blake Goodman and a brother Claude Allen Shumate, Jr. Surviving are sons: Jerry Goodman and wife Janet of Greensboro, NC and Benny Goodman and wife Diane of Reidsville, NC; brother, Marvin Bullock and wife Sarah of Reidsville, NC; grandchildren, Tammy Capps of Greensboro, NC, Jerry Goodman, Jr. of Southern Pines, NC, Rebecca Ayinde of Greensboro, NC, Crystal Goodman of Eden, NC; sister-in-law, Evelyn Shumate of Columbus, GA; eight great grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews. The family saw friends at the home of her son Benny, 2401 Richardson Dr., Reidsville, NC.
