Joseph W. Stupke, 70, of the Sherbrook Apartments, Cortlandville, N.Y., went to be with the Lord Feb. 18, 1999 after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 20, 1928 in Corning, the son of the late Joseph and Alice Stevens Stupke.
Joseph came to the Cortland area as a young boy and lived here most of his life. He was employed by Cornell University and worked in the Agronomy Department for 35 years. In his spare time he enjoyed cooking, woodworking, painting and using his computer.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Homer.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia of Cortlandville; daughters, Sherry (James) Whyte of Freeville, Patricia L. (James) Lumley of Cortland; sons, Joseph David (Darla) Stupke of Cortland, Mark Stephen (Linda) Stupke of Dryden, Dale Forrest (Brenda) Stupke of Concord, N.C., and Jon James (Kelley) Stupke of Cortland; a stepmother, Beatrice Stupke of Cortland; brothers, Dean (Audrey) Stupke of Orcas Island, Wash., Harmon (Lois) Stupke of Cortland, Gerrod (Julie) Stupke of Cortland; sisters, Alice Wimer of West Va., Sylvia Stupke of Warner Robbins, Ga., Kristine Stupke of McGraw, and Jolene (Michael) Dec of Moravia; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a loving mother-in-law, Lila Moscrop of Cortland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Homer. Interment will be held at a later time in the Cortland Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland.
