Robert R. Janov, 81, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2010, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. His loving wife is the former Geraldine Rusinko. Together, Robert and Geraldine celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on September 6, 2009. Born on July 29, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Albert and Irene (Penxa) Janov. Robert was raised in Wilkes-Barre and attended James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. Robert honorably served his country in the Naval Reserves. Since 1947, Robert worked as a self-employed painting and paper hanging contractor. He took great enjoyment in his line of work and was very successful in his trade. He retired this past December after 62 years of dedicated work. As a teenager, Robert attained his pilot's license, an achievement that he was very proud of. He spent many flying hours aviating Piper Cubs. In his earlier years, Robert, along with his wife, Geraldine, served with the Greater Wilkes-Barre Jaycees. Also, Robert served for a short time on the Swoyersville Planning Commission. A man of faith, Robert was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne. Robert was great fan of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, attending every home game they played, proudly cheering for his favorite team. An avid gardener, Robert always took pride in tending to his home and his garden. A train enthusiast, Robert was an avid model train builder and railroader. A thoughtful and caring man, Robert will forever be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Each of Robert's generous and loving attributes will be deeply missed by every person whose life he touched. In addition to his parents, Albert and Irene, Robert was also preceded in death by his brothers, William Janov, Joseph Janov, Albert Janov and Edward Janov; and his sisters, Margaret Ryan and Marie Fuchs. In addition to his loving wife, Geraldine, Robert is also survived by his children, Karen Fedor and her husband, John, Lehman Township; Nancy Janov, Tampa, Fla.; Richard Janov, West Wyoming; Robert Janov and his wife, Carla, Edwardsville; his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jason, Jennifer, Aimee, Jessica, Jill, Tony and Andrea; his 11 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; and friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Robert's funeral, which will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday from the Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at noon in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett St., Luzerne, with the Rev. Michael J. Zipay, his pastor, officiating. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Courtdale. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
