OAKLEY, George L. Captain, US Coast Guard Retired, passed away at his home in Dunedin on Feb. 11, 2010, after a brief illness. George moved to Dunedin in 1983, after retiring as the business director for the Seamans Church Institute in Philadelphia. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1939 and retired as a Captain, after 30 years in the service, in 1969. George is predeceased by his wife, Mary; son, George; and daughter, Mary Jo Hartlieb. He is survived by his daughters, Jane Pluta (Paul) of Wilmington, NC, Judy Fleury (Charlie) of Linthicum, MD, Patricia Riggin, of Pasadena, MD; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dunedin on Monday, Feb. 15, beginning at 11 am. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
