Demaris , also spelled Demaricas, Demarias, and Demaricy, was the daughter of James Altonia and Susannah Boston/Bostian Kirkland, and the granddaughter of Nathan Kirkland who was an early settler in Monroe County, TN. Nathan, thought to be the son of a white trader and a Cherokee woman in North Carolina, is said to have accquired the title as one of the lesser Cherokee chiefs. Demaris married a cousin Jonas Columbus Lynn, sometimes spelled "Linn". She and Jonas were the parents of Cinthia, Pleasant Wiley, Sarah, Andrew Jackson, Susannah, Margaret "Peggy", Christopher B., and Fancy Linn. It is possible that Demaris died in childbirth at about 46 years of age since Fancy was born the same year, in 1867. Some people believe she was also called Rissi, while others believe Rissi was her sister.
