Jens "James" Christensen was born in Denmark and immigrated to America around 1878. He married Maria "Mary" Helgesen, the daughter of Erik & Anna Helgesen. James & Mary more than likely were married in Lessor, Shawano County.

They had total of 9 children: Edwin Christensen who died as a child, Cora (Christensen) Kiepke, Bert Christiansen, Myrtle (Christensen) Sederstrom, William Christensen, Agnes (Christensen)Peterson, Norman Christensen, and another William who died as an infant & finally Anna who was stillborn.

His wife Mary died March 21, 1935 in Angelica and by 1940 he was living in Belle Plaine, Shawano County as an "inmate" at the Shawano County Home. At some point before 1940 he moved up north to Laona, Forest County, Wisconsin to live with his daughter, Myrtle Sederstrom and family.
