He married Electa Chase 7 Apr 1816. He died before his baby, Cynthia Patience Loomis was born on 1 Oct 1816.

Cynthia was born in New York at her Aunt Cynthia Chase Durkee's home at Grafton, New York.

Perhaps Roswell's death was caused in part because of illness from a food shortage in 1815-1816, caused by 1815, "The year without a summer".

A book on Descendants of Joseph Loomis said that he died 2 Jan 1814. That would have been before the marriage and before the time for the conception of his child. And before his supposed service in the War of 1812.

A son of Electa's brother Benjamin Chase was named Roswell Loomis Chase. He was born 29 Jun 1815.

Roswell Loomis was said to have been a "Green Mountain Boy", volunteer militia from Vermont. And he lived directly north of the Green Mountain Park. There was a large battle, the Battle of Plattsburgh, with 14,000 British from Montreal, 11 Sep 1814. They were going to attack New York, but were stopped at Lake Champlain. Some of the 5,000 American soldiers were "Green Mountain Boys".
