Raymond Amicangelo

IRON MOUNTAIN—Raymond A. Amicangelo, 71, of 736 Henford Ave., Kingsford, died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

Mr. Amicangelo was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Iron Mountain.

Mr. Amicangelo served with the U.S. Marine Corps, First Marine Division, in the Pacific Theater of Operations from 1942 to 1945 during World War II.

Mr. Amicangelo married the former Eleanor Orzehowski on June 19, 1945, at American Martyrs Catholic Church of Kingsford. She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 1992.

Mr. Amicangelo was a talented musician and music teacher, giving private lessons to many students. He played organ and piano for the enjoyment of others. Mr. Amicangelo toured with the big bands in major cities throughout the Midwest before and after World War II.

Mr. Amicangelo was a member of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) for 61 years.

He also was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church, United Commercial Travelers (UCT) and the Northland Beagle Club. He enjoyed spending time at his camp and hunting.

He leaves two sons, Anthony (Anne) of Breitung Township and Paul (Rachel) of Kingsford; a son-in-law, Larry Tinti of Norway; his mother, Irma of Iron Mountain; a brother, Paul of Iron Mountain; a sister, Phyllis Smith of Nekoosa, Wis., and three grandsons, Matthew and Joseph Tinti and Anthony Amicangelo Jr.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Amicangelo also was preceded in death by his daughter, Rae Paula Tinti, on Sept. 1, 1993, and by his father, Gasperino.

A memorial mass will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at American Martyrs Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Visitation will follow the mass in the church hall.

Burial will be in the Norway Township Cemetery.
