Mr. Billy Ray Brown, age 45, of Young Harris, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2001 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Brown was born on Feb 3, 1956 in Towns County, the son of the late Ray Brown and Geneva McClure Brown. He was a Towns County native. He was preceded in death by his father Ray Brown in 1991 and by one brother, Gary Brown in 2001. Mr. Brown was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving Mr. Brown are his mother, Geneva Brown of Young Harris; two sisters: Betty Totherow of Young Harris, and Jennifer Elliott of Blairsville; one brother; Larry Brown of Young Harris; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at 2 p.m. from the Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Victory McVay and Rev. Sam Nichols officiating. Special music was presented by Charlotte Young and Linda Davenport. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kenneth Pickelsimer, Timm Ingram, Hines Hooper, Terry Ingram, Ray Groves, and Tom McVay. Interment followed in the Kuykendall Family Cemetery in Young Harris.
