Capt. John C. Kay, RET., U.S. Army, 87, of Abbeville, husband of the late Dorothy Hall Kay, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC. He was born in Abbeville to the late Frank and Ollie Sharpe Kay. Mr. Kay was a life-long member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church and a member of the Long Canites. He was a retired Captain with the United States Army having served in WWII with the 178th Firing Artillery Battalion. After serving in the Army, he joined the United States Army National Guard. Mr. Kay was a retired employee of Milliken & Co., Abbeville Plant.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Benny Kay; a son, John F. "Johnny" Kay and a great-grandson, John Michael Evans.
Mr. Kay is survived by two daughters, Vivian Anne Kay Moore and her husband Bob of Decatur, Alabama and Karen Kay Higgins and her husband John of Anderson; a brother, Billy Kay of Abbeville; a daughter-in-law, Melva N. Kay of Abbeville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Upper Long Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John Miller and Rev. Roy E. Beckman officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.
