H. J. Lichtenegger Dies in Hospital
Herman J. Lichtenegger of Altenburg, former associate judge of the County Court, died Thursday, June 19, at St. Francis hospital, Cape Girardeau, where he was taken June 16 for treatment. He was 71 years old. Last fall he underwent surgery in St. Louis and never fully recovered.
The body was brought to Young & Sons Chapel in Perryville, where it lay in state until Sunday morning. It was taken then to the family home in Altenburg, where it lay until Monday morning, when the funeral was held to Trinity Lutheran church and cemetery at
Altenburg. Services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. A. A. Vogel.
Mr. Lichtenegger was born at Pocahontas, Cape Girardeau County, on Nov. 7, 1875. He was married
Apr. 4, 1904, to Miss Alwine Palisch. The three children born to them survive. They are Mrs. Louise Herberger of St. Louis, Ellis Lichtenegger of South Bend Ind., and Elmer Lichtenegger of Altenburg. His wife died May 23, 1930. On Sep. 30 1933, Mr. Lichtenegger was married to Mrs. Martha Littge, who survives him. He also leaves three brothers, John and Henry of Pocahontas and August Lichtenegger of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Mrs. Louis Gerler of Altenburg, and six grandchildren.
Mr. Lichtenegger, well-known farmer, served two terms on the County Court.
