"FUNERAL OF MRS. DOWELL TODAY - Came to this Coast in 1858 via Isthmus; Born in Albany in 1830.
The funeral of Mrs. C. A. Dowell, who died last Monday, was held from her late residence, 1641 Park Street, this morning. Rev. Willsie M. Martin, of the First Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery. (a line was drawn through above name and pencilled in: Mountain View). Mrs. Dowell was born in Albany, N. Y. in 1830. She came to California via the Isthmus in 1858, and after residing in various California cities, took up her permanent residence in Alameda. Mrs. Dowell was a descendent of the old Hollanders, her ancestry dating back as far as Charles II on her father's side, and on her mother's side her connection dates back to Mayflower days. Deceased was an estimable woman, well known for her charities. She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, Fred Dowell of Oakland, and Will Hughes of Suisun (Solano County), and two daughters, Mrs. William Bolt, and Mrs. Ida Bradley, both of this city.
