Price Pedestrian, 71, Dies and Collision Fatal to Ogdenite"

" -- Francis Marion Pace, 71, Price, died Saturday at 1 a.m. in Carbon Hospital here of injuries suffered when he was struck by a car Friday at 9:28 p.m.

Price City Police said it was the first traffic fatality within the city limits since 1956.

The victim's body was tossed about 20 feet by the impact. Officer Glenn Peterson said investigation was continuing Saturday.

He reported Mr. Pace was crossing the street at Fourth East and Second South in a heavy mixed rain and snow storm when hit by a southbound car driven by James Cockrane, 19, Sunnyside, Carbon County.

Visibility was poor at the time and Mr. Pace was wearing dark clothing, police said.

Francis M. Pace was born Jan. 24, 1890, in Price, a son of John H. and Pauline Bryner Pace. He was a retired Utah State Road Commission employee and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Surviving are two sisters and a brother, Rhoda Pace, Price; Mrs. Edith Prince, Ogden, and L. H. Pace of Craig, Colorado.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Price LDS First Ward Chapel. Friends may call at Wallace Mortuary, Price, Monday and at the chapel two hours prior to services Tuesday.

Burial will be in Price City Cemetery."

Death certificate listed in the Wallace Mortuary records housed at the Price LDS Family History Library states that he was born in Price, Carbon, Utah on Jan. 24, 1890 and died in Price March 18, 1961. He was a lifelong resident of Price. The street address where he resided was 346 East 2nd South, Price. He was a retired State Road Employee. He was buried in the Price City Cemetery on March 21, 1961. Along with the death certificate, there was also a "request for burial" to Price Municipal Corporation. which cost them $30 for grave opening and $29.50 for grave liner. This was paid by check No. 7224 on March 21, 1961. It has a location of the Price City Cemetery of Space, Lot and Section; however, nothing is filled out.
