Born in Alexandria, VA, Mrs. Westphal grew up in Woodbridge, VA, where she graduated from Woodbridge High School. She also graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1998, and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was the membership marketing manager of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. She enjoyed traveling, and while vacationing on the island of Kauai in Hawaii, she was swept out to sea by a large wave. Rescue attempts were futile.
She is survived by her husband, Jason Westphal; her parents, Charlie & Veda Conti of North Carolina, and a brother.
