Our devoted, loving father and husband, Kennedy W. Curtis, passed away peacefully at the El Dorado Hospital in Tucson in the early morning during a soft rain on Oct. 15, 2005.

He had been hospitalized since Sept. 29, and family members were at his side most of the time.

Kennedy was born May 4, 1917, to McDonald (Don) and June (Moody) Curtis in Thatcher. His early years were spent growing up with four brothers and three sisters on the San Jose Farm in the Gila Valley.

He attended school in Thatcher, Solomon and graduated from Safford High. He went on to Gila Academy in Thatcher, where he played football. Kennedy served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the northwestern states. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Corps of Engineers during the European Invasion.

He met and married LaDonna Faith Evans while stationed in Washington State prior to his tour of duty. They were married Jan. 28, 1943, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa LDS Temple. There were seven children born to this union.

The couple moved back to Arizona in 1945 and purchased the Old West Ranch north of Safford, which Kennedy operated with his father for many years. He was a rancher for more than 50 years and was riding horses up to the age of 80. Even when his health would not permit him to ride, he kept a horse (Babe) for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to ride.

Kennedy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, accepting numerous callings, including a mission with his sweetheart, LaDonna, in the Oakland California Mission. His greatest joy in his life was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, LaDonna; his children, Donna June Bolinger (Bob), Sharon Ann Parker (David), Mark Kennedy (LaFaunda), John Rocky (Iris), David Vern (Sydney), Steven Michael (Susan), and his favorite, Debra Dicus; 30 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Belva Dean Anglin (Bob), Lorraine Chamberlain (Don), Brandt (Norma), Max (Rosalie), Brooks (Myrna) and Greta Waldrom. He is preceded in death by his brother, Bernard (Margaret).

The family would like to express their appreciation for the people at Renal West (dialysis) Center for the care and friendship they extended during the past three weeks. They would also like to thank the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center emergency staff for its help and kindness.

Services will be Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Thatcher Stake Center. Viewing will be at the Bunker's Caldwell Chapel on Oct. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the funeral. Interment will be at the Thatcher Cemetery.
