Helen Ann (Howery) Smith died Sunday, September 4, 2022. She was born Nov. 26, 1937, in Mason, Michigan. Her parents were Robert Ralph and Esther Annabelle (Marshall) Howery. She grew up on a farm with her brother Roger Dale and loved to help her father and Uncle Albert by driving the tractor for the big salary of 25 cents/hour.

She attended Hubbard School with Anna Crowl as her teacher and then graduated from Mason High School in 1956. She attended and graduated from Huntington College in Huntington, Indiana in 1960. She taught school in Fort Wayne and Huntington, Indiana; Fowlerville and Breckenridge, Michigan and was a substitute teacher where we lived as a pastor's family. While living in Huntington, she also earned her master's degree in education from Saint Francis College in 1965.

In 1961 she married Theron Lee Smith, also a student at Huntington College. She had felt the Lord calling her to be a missionary. Just what that looked like, Theron answered the call to ministry, so her mission field was as a pastor's wife for 61 years. God is Good!

Her main calling however was being mom to two sons: Steven Lynn and Stacy Lee. Because of them she enjoyed the roll also of being grandma as Steve and Stacy brought into our family our daughters Linda Lou and Jamie Michelle. Four wonderful granddaughters have also become a part of our lives: Elizabeth Celle, Brianna Ruth, Rebekah Lynn and Reagan LeeAnn. Our granddaughters have added to our family by bringing Mark, Luke & Matthew into our lives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and son Steven Lynn.

Services honoring Helen's life were held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Eden United Brethren Church located at 1938 Eden Road in Mason, Michigan, with Pastor Dan Bentz officiating. Visitation was held at the church on Wednesday, September7, from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Eden United Brethren Church, 1938 Eden Road, Mason, MI 48854 or online at www.edenubchurch.com.

Arrangements entrusted to Vickers Leslie Funeral Home, 109 N. Church Street, P.O. Box 503, Leslie, MI 49251. 517-878-6600.
