Mrs. Mary Baker, 79, an Iowan most of her life, died at Tonderum Nursing Home in Estherville.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the Methodist church with the Rev. J. K. DeLahooke of Spencer officiating and burial was in Lakeview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Sarasine, J.G. Lindquist, Donald Malmgren, George Kuhlman, Harry Farr and Neil Nelson of Orleans.

Mrs. Baker's husband, Daniel, preceded her in death in 1939. They were married at Eureka, Ill. in 1892 and lived at East Lynne, ILL., 10 years before moving to near Jefferson, Iowa, In 1913 they moved to a farm near Spirit Lake, later retiring to a home in town, where she resided until taken to the nursing home two months ago.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Oscar Rhoades of Ladysmith, Wis., 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In Spirit Lake to attend funeral services for Mrs. Mary Baker Monday afternoon were Mrs. Avalt Baker's parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Bernhagen, Floyd and Carrie of Storm Lake, and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith of Spencer; also Miss Isabel Fonnie of Sac City.

Mary Magdelene Litcher, daughter of Frank and Christian Licther, was born in Woodford county, Illinois on Sept. 13, 1872 and died at the Tonderum Nursing Home in Estherville, Iowa on Dec. 7, 1951. She was 79 years, two months and 25 days of age.

When 14 years old, Mrs. Baker joined the Lutheran church and attended the Methodist church in Spirit Lake as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of Ruth and the Ladies of the Lakeview Cemetery Society.

Feb. 8, 1892 she was united in marriage to Daniel Baker at Eureka, ILL. He preceded her in death in 1939. The couple lived in East Lynne, Ill., for 10 years and near Jefferson, Iowa for 11 years. In 1913, they moved to a farm near Spirit Lake, later retiring to make their home in town.

To this union four children were born, Otto Franklin, who passed away in 1927 from the effects of a gas attack in World War I; Elma Ellen Rhoades of Ladysmith, Wis., Avalt Louis, who passed away this year, and a son who died in infancy in 1914.

Survivor include one daughter, Mrs. Oscar Rhoades of Ladysmith, Wis., 12 grandchildren, 1st Lt. Earl F. Baker of Fort Sill, Okla., Daniel L. Rhoades of Clinton, Ind., Gladys Rosenberg, Vera, Velma, Evelyn and Billie Baker all of Spirit Lake, Olive Kearney of Fayetteville, Ark., Grace Ambrose of Los Angeles, Calif. and three girls, daughters of Otto Baker, adopted into other homes; also, five great-grandchildren.
