Clifford Earl Midgett, 90, an Outer Banks native, died Feb. 4, 2010 at his home in Kitty Hawk Village. He was the widower of Ruth Hines Midgett.

He was a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church and was commonly known as "Pop" by all who knew him. Many will remember Pop and Mama Ruth as the couple who sat in the rocking chairs in front of their garage in the village. He served in the Navy during WW II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

He is survived by older brother Robert H. Midgett, 96, of Nags Head; sister Nadine Ray of Fayetteville; daughter Donna Harris and husband Johnny of Chesapeake; son Clifford Jr. (Bud) and wife Ginny of Kill Devil Hills; son Sheriff Rodney Midgett and wife Betty of Colington; and daughter Kimberly Ross and husband Alex of Duck. He has seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral was held on Feb. 8 at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, with burial in the Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk Village. Donations may be made to Dare County Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954 or Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 900, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.
