Alva Baker passed away on March 26, 1998 at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake. His services were Sat., March 28, 1998 at United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, with Rev. James Stiles officiating. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Pallbearers include Bob Chalstrom, Wade Chalstrom, Mark Johnson, Bob Untiedt and Wayne Untiedt. Honorary pallbearers were Craig Baker, Kevin Baker, Mike Baker, Rick Johnson, Dave Smith and Don Untiedt. Music was provided by Gladys Shultz, organist.

Alva Vinoy Baker was born on Dec. 30, 1900 in Atlanta, Neb. to Les and Moina (Thrasher) Baker. In 1924 Alva entered into marriage to Mildred Bell. To this union, three children were born, DeLila, Everett and Darrell.

Mr. Baker originally worked with Harry Yarnes, Sr. building roads in the area. In the mid 1930's Alva obtained employment as a mechanic for the Dickinson County maintenance where he worked until his retirement in 1965.

In Nov., 1949, Mildred passed away. Alva remarried on June 24, 1951 to Leona Chalstrom. The Bakers spent many winters in Ariz. enjoying the warm weather and friendships. Alva liked to watch baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs, and fishing in the Iowa Great Lakes.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leona of Spirit Lake, sons, Everett and his wife, June of Peoria, Ariz., Darrell and his wife, Cheong of Seoul, Korea, daughter, DeLila Johnson of Milford, daughter-in-law, Elaine Chalstrom of Milwaukee, Wis., twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, three sisters, three brothers and a step-son, John Chalstrom.
